Ronny Deila admitted Celtic just weren’t good enough to beat Malmo tonight.
Celtic’s Champions League dream is over for another year following a disastrous 2-0 defeat away at Malmo this evening, handing the Bhoys a 4-3 aggregate defeat.
Celtic were coasting at 3-1 up in the first leg, but a late Jo Inge Berget goal meant that it was all to play for in Sweden – and it was Malmo who came out on top.
Goals from Markus Rosenberg and Felipe Carvalho handed Malmo the 2-0 victory, sending Celtic out of the competition before the group stage for the second year in a row.
Manager Ronny Deila will now be feeling the pressure after two failed play-off campaigns in a row, and the dismal showing in Sweden tonight will have done him no favours.
Speaking to the Celtic official Twitter account after the game, Deila have a short reaction to the result – admitting that Celtic simply weren’t good enough.
The Bhoys now have to focus on their league campaign, but a Europa League challenge is on the cards for Deila, just as it was last season.
It’s not the continental competition Celtic wanted, but it’s what they have after a nightmare in Sweden – and Deila simply has to try and take the Bhoys as far as he can in the Europa League this season.
