Ronnie McGrath has posted on Instagram after finally making his Leeds return after more than eight months on the sidelines injured. The winger opened the scoring in a 7-0 win over Derby’s Under-18’s on Saturday.
McGrath, who was born in 2005 and is aged just 17, impressed for the club’s Under-18 side last season – even scoring in a 1-1 draw against Everton in the Premier League North division. But injury has since hampered his progress.
Such progress which saw the highly-rated wide man even training with Marcelo Bielsa’s senior side on occasions, as per LUFC Youth. There were signs that he might be able to return in October, posting training videos.
But it has taken until February for McGrath to finally make his return, starting on the right flank in a 7-0 win over Derby’s Under-18 side on Saturday. He scored the first, although it was deflected into the net.
Lui Bradbury got a brace, Archie Gray also got a goal – as did Jay Buchan, Joe Snowdon and Luca Thomas – the latter of whom joined the club from Manchester City. McGrath posted on Instagram after his return.
McGrath returns: Aim must be on making 23’s Leeds debut
The Whites have made additions over the course of the past 12 months that might make his pathway into Mark Jackson’s side somewhat tricky. The likes of Crysencio Summerville is shining, while Amari Miller has joined.
Stuart McKinstry and Liam McCarron are also options. But McGrath has huge potential and that was shown by his inclusion in senior training, prior to his injury. If he can get back to his best, then the 23’s will come calling.
