Everton manager Rafael Benitez is still hopeful of getting a deal done for former Newcastle United loanee Salomon Rondon, according to The Athletic (Transfer Live blog, 4:28pm, August 31, 2021).

What’s the story?

It is being reported this afternoon that Everton are still hopeful that their quest to secure the services of Rondon before the summer transfer window closes tonight will be successful.

Benitez worked with the striker when he was the manager of Newcastle and the Venezuela international was on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

The 31-year-old striker also played under Benitez at Chinese club Dalian Professional.

Moise Kean has returned to Juventus, so Everton need to bring in a replacement striker.

Thus, Everton want to sign Rondon, who himself wants to join the Toffees.

According to the report, the prospect of reuniting with Benitez at Everton appeals to the striker, who has made a total of 140 appearances in the Premier League in his career so far, scoring 35 goals in the process.

Could an Everton transfer happen?

It seems that both Everton and Rondon want the transfer to happen.

It is very likely that a deal will happen, if things move quickly.

Everton need to work swiftly on this potential transfer and agree a deal with Dalian in the coming hours.
