Curtis has starred for Portsmouth this season, with Leeds reportedly interested.
Ronan Curtis’ excellent form for Portsmouth in League One has has seen him earn the reputation of one of the stand-out performers of England’s third tier so far – and Leeds United are reportedly keen.
Football website TeamTalk claim that Leeds are joined by Leicester City Sheffield United, Brighton, Middlesbrough and Derby County, just months after the 22-year-old joined Portsmouth this summer.
Curtis’ superb form for Portsmouth has seen him called up to the Ireland squad, after scoring six goals and creating five more in just 12 outings. He cost Portsmouth just £100,000 from Derry City.
Leeds are likely to add to their squad in the January transfer window in a bid to boost their hunt for promotion come May, and a winger will surely be a priority.
Indeed, the Whites boast plenty of options from out wide as Jack Clarke’s meteoric rise into the first team continues. Other than Clarke, Leeds can call upon Gjanni Alioski, Pablo Hernandez, Jack Harrison and Stuart Dallas.
But Dallas has been used elsewhere, while Harrison and Alioski have been inconsistent at best this season, scoring only four goals between them in a combined 29 appearances.
Adding a winger with top-class quality to boost their promotion hopes of an eventual return to the Premier League for the first time since 2004 is key, and the Whites must find one that scores goals.
Indeed, Curtis fits the bill. Interest from the Premier League and a call-up to Ireland’s national side show that playing in League One is beneath him. He would be an excellent signing for Leeds, if they opted to move for the winger.
