Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Manchester United to hijack Newcastle United’s move for Kieran Trippier, as he told talkSPORT (05/01/22 at 9:10 am).
The former striker thinks Newcastle should be ‘delighted’ with the possible Trippier signing because he can’t ‘imagine the goals Ronaldo and Cavani would get’ from the right-back’s service.
Sky Sports report that Trippier is closing on a move to St James’ Park, after the club agreed on a £12 million deal with Atletico Madrid for the player.
There were murmurings in the summer that those in the Old Trafford boardroom possibly wanted to bring a man of Trippier’s experience and technical quality to the club.
But what is possibly Man United’s loss is going to be Newcastle’s gain because they are crying out for quality and experience at the back.
Agbonlahor shared that if Newcastle can pay Trippier’s wages, then he is pretty sure Man United can match it because the transfer fee isn’t that big.
“Why have Manchester United let Trippier go to Newcastle,” asked Agbonlahor.
“He would be perfect for Manchester United. Just get it done. That sort of money, for £12 million. I am sure Manchester United can pay the wages Newcastle can.
“Put him on the right-hand side. Imagine the goals Ronaldo and Cavani would get from that service.
“Wan-Bissaka is not a modern-day fullback, so for me, Manchester United have missed a trick with Trippier and Newcastle should be delighted.”

Well, instead of having to feed Ronaldo or Ederson Cavani, it’s Callum Wilson or Joelinton instead for Trippier.
After all the spotlight on Newcastle United’s new owners, it seems as though a 31-year-old right-back will be the first signing of their new era.
Whilst Trippier is towards the back end of his career, it’s still a statement purchase because he was an England regular in the summer.
Some would argue now that he is Newcastle’s colours, he won’t be picked for the Three Lions, but this is some first statement signing for the Magpies if they can get it over the line.
