The Leeds United player was well below his best against Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Ronaldo Vieira’s recent performance against Bristol City proved his importance to Garry Monk’s side, as the teenager ensured Liam Bridcutt’s absence through suspension went unnoticed with the Whites running out 2-1 winners.
With Vieira and Eunan O’Kane impressing in the centre of the park, it was no surprise to see them keep their places for Saturday’s clash with Ipswich Town, but Vieira was hooked at half-time, replaced by the returning skipper.
Some Leeds fans questioned the wisdom of replacing Vieira midway through the match yet the truth is both the player and Leeds as a whole were struggling and a change was required.
There is no doubting Vieira’s talent, but his up-and-down form is an inevitability of youth.
More often than not the Leeds youngster puts in wonderful performances. However there will always be blips as he continues to learn his trade.
To expect consistency from an 18-year-old, especially in such a key area of the pitch, is both unrealistic and unfair.
The key for Leeds manager Garry Monk is ensuring most of Vieira’s outings are impressive with just a few duds, slowly ironing those out until he becomes the superb player many at Elland Road expect him to become.
