Leeds United ended their campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Wigan Athletic on Sunday afternoon, bringing an end to Garry Monk’s first season in charge.

The Whites knew that only a freak set of results could take them into the Championship play-offs, and they didn’t get the results they wanted as their season petered out to a disappointing end.

Monk’s men travelled to take on already-relegated Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and they fell behind after just three minutes as Ryan Tunnicliffe gave the hosts the lead.

However, Leeds did hit back in the second half, with Chris Wood scoring his 30th goal of the season in all competitions, converting from the penalty spot after Eunan O’Kane had been fouled.

With just three points from the final five games of the season, Leeds didn’t enjoy the end to the season they had hoped, missing out on the play-offs by five points in the end.

After the final whistle on Sunday afternoon, a host of Leeds players took to Twitter to send messages to fans, with teenage midfielder Ronaldo Vieira reflecting on his first full season in the Leeds first team, admitting he was proud of Leeds before suggesting that they ‘will be back’ – an ominous message to rival Championship clubs.

Luke Ayling, Eunan O’Kane, Stuart Dallas and Kemar Roofe all echoed those sentiments, praising the club’s fans after a superb season, though all four were disappointed to miss out on the top six.

Defender Liam Cooper not only hailed the club’s supporters as the best around, but also explained that he missed Sunday’s game having rolled his ankle in training, adding that he was gutted to miss out.
