Leeds earned an excellent 3-0 win over Preston at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Ronaldo Vieira has applauded Tyler Roberts on Instagram after the Leeds United striker opened his account for the Whites with an excellent brace against Preston North End on Tuesday night.
A £2.5million signing from West Bromwich Albion in January, Roberts failed to make a single appearance for Leeds throughout the entire 2017-18 season after picking up an ankle injury in training.
He made his debut in the Carabao Cup against Bolton Wanderers from the wing before doing the same against Preston from out wide in the Cup, but was criticised for having little impact.
He was given his first league appearance following injuries to Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford against Millwall, but again Wales international Roberts struggled and missed a number of chances as the Whites drew 1-1 at The Den.
But it was a different story on Tuesday night, as Roberts opened his account with an excellent chip before heading home a Mateusz Klich cross to round off a superb 3-0 win at Elland Road. Vieira reacted to his display on Instagram.
Leeds had opened the scoring through Liam Cooper, after the captain’s header somehow found its way into the back of the net despite Preston having a player on the line.
Roberts then latched onto a long ball from Kalvin Phillips to chip Preston goalkeeper Declan Rudd, before heading a precise Klich cross into the back of the net with aplomb – drawing praise from Sampdoria star Vieira, who left Leeds for the Serie A club this summer.
Leeds are next in action against Birmingham City and Garry Monk on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road, as they look to increase the gap at the top of the table. They currently sit three points clear of Brentford.
