Leeds midfielder is on duty with England’s under-20 squad

Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has admitted he had no idea of the size of the club when he joined.

Speaking to the FA website, Vieira has been recounting his short career so far as he gets more involved with England’s under-20 squad.

The teenager broke into the Leeds first team last season and remains a part of Thomas Christiansen’s plans this season.

He recently signed a four-year contract at Leeds, where he signed in 2015 after a successful trial.

He said: “When I first joined Leeds United, I had no idea how big a club it was.

“After I signed, I heard more about the stories of what they’d done in the previous years of their history.

“Last season, getting into the team at Leeds and playing a lot of football was amazing for me, I wasn’t expecting to play as many games as I did and it’s all happened so fast.”

Vieira added that he wants to stay at Leeds for the foreseeable future.

He added: “Leeds is my home now, it’s my home town, my home team and I’m really happy and enjoying it.”

The 19-year-old surprised everybody last season with how quickly he adapted to Championship football.

Leeds are well stocked with options in central midfield and for now he has been overtaken by another academy lad, Kalvin Phillips.

That could be good for Vieira in the long run so he is not over exposed and can be used more sparingly, providing he is given enough first team football to keep him happy.
