Ronaldo Vieira has endured a frustrating season for Leeds United, despite signing a new long-term contract back in the summer.
When Andrea Radrizzani took full control of Leeds United earlier in the summer, he got the fans on side immediately with the announcement just hours later made on the club’s official website that Ronaldo Vieira had signed a contract extension until 2021.
Vieira is undoubtedly one of the brightest prospects in the Championship, so getting him to commit his future to the Whites handed the club a major boost after the disappointment of missing out on the play-offs last season.
However, the season has not exactly gone to plan for Vieira personally so far, with the 19-year-old making just two substitute appearances in the league this term with Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips striking up a fantastic partnership in the middle of the park.
So perhaps Leeds’ next game may present the teenager with the perfect opportunity to prove a point to Thomas Christiansen and show why he was the first player to sign a new contract following Radrizzani’s full takeover.
The Whites travel to Turf Moor for their third round tie in the League Cup, and given that he has started in the previous two rounds, it would probably be more of a surprise if he did not start against Sean Dyche’s men, especially with O’Kane and Phillips struggling against Millwall this weekend.
There would surely be no better way for Vieira to prove that he deserves to come back into Christiansen’s starting lineups on a regular basis than to put in a fantastic display away to a Premier League side, especially with the Clarets doing so well in the top flight currently.
