Manchester City’s U-21 side got off to a perfect start in the EFL Trophy with a 3-0 win against Scunthorpe United. But Cole Palmer stole the show with his first-half goal.

The 19-year-old midfielder hit a screamer six minutes in as City ran riot against the League Two side.

Palmer has already featured for the first team this season, and his goal in the EFL Trophy will stand in good sted with Pep Guardiola. City now sit top of Group E, with Doncaster Rovers and Rotherham due in September.

It was a night to remember for Palmer, who ran the show for City following his early goal for the hosts. Strikes from Luke Bolton and James Mcatee rounded off the victory for the Manchester giants.

The EFL Trophy has proven to be a good source of development for Premier League youngsters taking part in the competition. And City bolster one of the best U-21 sides in the tournament.

Indeed, Palmer and his stunning goal proved that the youth teams in the Premier League can take on professional clubs in the English Football League.

And on social media, City fans were buzzing for Palmer and his performance against Scunthorpe. The midfielder is proving to be a promising player at the club.
