Gremio striker Luan looks certain to be Brazil’s next biggest export – and Tottenham and Liverpool would reportedly love to sign him.
If you’re considering paying top dollar for the latest Brazilian wonderkid, it makes sense to take heed of two-time Ballon D’Or winner Ronaldinho. After all, the former PSG, Barcelona and AC Milan superstar can be trusted to identify a world class talent-in-waiting from his home country.
And 24-year-old Luan certainly looks the real deal. According to Tuttomercatoweb, Tottenham Hotspur have joined Liverpool in the chase for the Gremio striker valued at a not unreasonable price of £12.7 million.
Of course they have. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, like his Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp, values exhilarating attacking football and prefers that it be played by some of the world’s most talented young players.
Yet, if Ronaldinho had his way, Luan would be attempting to emulate the greatest Brazilian footballer of the noughties inside the cathedral of the Camp Nou.
“Luan is very good. He’s creative, he’s different, he’s talented and he thinks differently to other players,” the 2002 World Cup winner said in quotes reported by Sambafoot.
“He’ll come to Europe soon. He is the perfect player for Barcelona.”
Alongside Gabriel Barbosa and Gabriel Jesus, Luan exploded onto the scene by spearheading Brazil’s stunning success at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. And, like his jogo bonito-espousing compatriots, a move to Europe seems an inevitability.
And Tottenham or Liverpool could be an ideal destination, with both Pochettino and Klopp revered for their ability to hone unique young talents.
Luan, however, is far from prolific. In 54 games for Gremio this season, he has scored just 12 goals – a factor which may explain the surprisingly low asking price. Although, at Tottenham or Liverpool, Luan’s frightening potential could be unleashed.
