Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Frenkie de Jong.
Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has been quoted by Voetbal Primeur as saying that midfielder Frenkie de Jong is a great talent who showed great flair against France.
After years of underachievement, which have resulted in missing out on the 2016 European Championships and the 2018 World Cup, the Netherlands are attempting to rebuild under former Everton boss Koeman.
After a 2-1 home win over Peru last week, Koeman took his side to the Stade de France for a UEFA Nations League clash with France, who had drawn 0-0 with Germany just days earlier.
Sunday’s clash was kickstarted by a Kylian Mbappe opener, and whilst Ryan Babel equalised, Olivier Giroud ended his lengthy goal drought with the winning goal for the World Cup winners.
The game was watched by many because of the key role played by Ajax talent Frenkie de Jong, as he was handed his second cap with a starting role in Koeman’s midfield.
The 21-year-old is earning a huge reputation in the Netherlands having starred with Ajax, showing outstanding technique, control, passing ability, dribbling and maturity.
Mundo Deportivo now report that Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur have both failed with bids for De Jong, with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino seemingly keen to lure him to North London.
Now, Koeman has been quoted by Voetbal Primeur as saying that he feels De Jong is a great talent, and believes he has ‘flair of enormous quality’, praising him for showing flair throughout his game against France – suggesting that Tottenham would be bringing in a real flair midfielder if Pochettino can bring him in.
“Frenkie is a great talent and his flair is of enormous quality”, said Koeman. “I enjoyed his game, he had that flair from the start of the game,” he added.
