Ronald Koeman wanted to sign Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro for Southampton, so Everton’s interest should surprise few.

According to Italian publication Tuttosport, Everton are interested in Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro this summer, but that should probably come as little surprise.

The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a place in the Old Lady’s first-team since his arrival at the Allianz Stadium in 2014, having not made more than 12 Serie A starts in a single season since his move from Genoa.

Nevertheless, Tuttosport’s suggestion that he is on the Toffees’ radar should not be a shock as he appears to be a player that Ronald Koeman has had his eye on before.

Back in January 2016, the Daily Mirror reported that Koeman – who was in charge of Southampton at the time – had earmarked Sturaro as a potential replacement for Victor Wanyama, who would leave St Mary’s for Tottenham that summer.

The Mirror suggested that the Saints had made a £12.7 million bid for the Juve man, and the fact that Koeman seemingly believed that he could be capable of replacing Wanyama arguably how highly he rates Sturaro.

Wanyama was a key man for Southampton, and continues to be as influential for Spurs – which therefore just hints, that Sturaro perhaps has the potential to thrive in the Premier League in Koeman’s eyes.
