Ronald Koeman has suggested to the Liverpool Echo that he may make changes for Everton’s next match against Manchester United.

Everton are set to take on United at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, following a disappointing defeat in the Merseyside derby.

The Toffees named a young line-up against Liverpool, but they fell to a 3-1 defeat.

The likes of Mason Holgate, Matthew Pennington, Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were all picked to start against the Reds.

And when asked whether he would stick by Everton’s young players for their next match, Koeman said: “I don’t know. Tuesday is a different game. We need to see tomorrow and Monday what our options are and make decisions.”

Everton’s options are limited, especially in defence, after injuries to both Seamus Coleman and Ramiro Funes-Mori.

Everton’s defeat against Liverpool was only their second of 2017, but it has surely ended their top four hopes.

If the Toffees can beat United, though, they could close the gap on the top six.

Everton would move level on points with Jose Mourinho’s side with a victory over Old Trafford, and they could leapfrog Arsenal and move up to sixth in the table.
