Everton manager, Ronald Koeman, has hailed Romelu Lukaku as one of the best strikers in the world after the Belgian produced a masterclass performance on Sunday afternoon.

In a pulsating thriller at Goodison Park, Everton edged Leicester City 4-2 where Lukaku scored twice and took his goal tally to 23 this season in the Premier League.

It is not just about the goals that make Lukaku a special player. The 23-year-old has developed his all-round game and now he wants to take his game to the next level by joining a Champions League club.

“Romelu Lukaku is one of the best strikers in the world and I think the boy is improving in different aspects,” said Koeman to BBC Sports after the game.

Lukaku has a contract with Everton till 2019, and he has been offered a new contract extension. However, the Belgium international is not keen to prolong his stay at the Merseyside club beyond the summer, as he seeks a new challenge elsewhere.

Although Everton would sell him on a high profit, the club would love to have him with them for years to come. Koeman said that Everton will try everything in their power to keep him at the club, but the decision rests with the player.

“Everybody knows he’s a key player for Everton and we will try to do everything to keep him here but the final decision is always with the player. Everyone knows he has his own ambition but we will try our best,” he added.

Everton fans will be pleased with such comments from Koeman. The Toffees may eventually have to part ways with Lukaku, but the club at least have shown ambitions to retain their top players.
