Everton manager Ronald Koeman has told the Liverpool Echo that he thinks the Toffees have deserved every result so far this season – and shouldn’t be higher than where they are now.

The Toffees played out a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Friday evening, with Romelu Lukaku’s first-half free kick cancelled out by a superb header from Christian Benteke after the break.

It’s now just one point from their last two games for Everton having lost 1-0 to Bournemouth last month, but the first seven league games under new manager Koeman have largely been positive.

After a solid 1-1 draw with Tottenham on the opening day of the season, Everton then went and won their next four games against West Brom, Stoke City, Sunderland and Middlesbrough to make an unbeaten start to the campaign.

Koeman will now be a little frustrated with the last couple of games, but Everton currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League table, meaning they stay in the top six heading into the international break.

After the final whistle against Crystal Palace, Koeman spoke to the Liverpool Echo about the game, and was asked whether he felt Everton should be higher in the table than they are right now – despite being third.

Koeman suggested that Everton are somewhat exceeding expectations, but all their results – including last weekend’s defeat to Bournemouth – have been entirely deserved.

The Dutchman added that he thinks everything has been ‘positive’ about Everton’s season so far, but he still wants an improvement in the coming weeks.

“Should we be higher than we are now? Please, please think about it,” said Koeman. “Did you expect Everton, before the season started to be this high? We didn’t steal one single point this season. All the victories – and the defeat last weekend – have all been deserved.”

“Overall it has been positive but we need to be better. Since the start of the season everything has been very positive,” he added.
