Everton lost 1-0 away to Southampton this afternoon.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman has taken to Twitter to react to his side’s disappointing 1-0 away defeat at Southampton this evening.
The Toffees went into the game having won just one of their previous seven games, whilst manager Koeman was making his first return to St. Mary’s Stadium having left Southampton for Everton over the summer.
Southampton’s Charlie Austin scores against Everton
The Dutchman will have been hoping to show just why he made the move, but his afternoon got off to a disastrous start as Southampton striker Charlie Austin – who Koeman signed in January – headed home from close range having been picked out by Josh Sims with just 41 seconds on the clock.
Everton tried to get themselves back into the game, but could only muster one shot on target as the likes of Ross Barkley, Yannick Bolasie and Romelu Lukaku all struggled to make an impact on the game.

Southampton ran out 1-0 winners in the end, and the result means that Koeman not only endured a miserable return to his former club, but has now picked up just one win in the last eight Premier League games.
Everton’s slump comes after a promising start to the season, and whilst Koeman isn’t under any immediate pressure, the recent results show just how much work the Dutchman has to do at Goodison Park.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
After the final whistle, Koeman took to Twitter to send a message to Toffees fans, admitting that it was a ‘really poor start’ to the game for his Everton side.
Koeman noted that Everton had chances to get back into the contest and Southampton could have killed the game off in the second half, before thanking fans for their support after a long journey from Merseyside to the South Coast.
Everton fans are clearly unhappy, as they responded by urging Koeman to start playing youngsters like Mason Holgate and Tom Davies, whilst branding the display ‘pathetic’ as well.
