Ronald Koeman has told Everton’s official website that he was delighted with the impact that all three of his substitutes made against Manchester United yesterday.
Everton managed to pick up a 1-1 draw against United, with Leighton Baines scoring a late penalty to rescue a point.
The Toffees had been on the back foot for the first hour of the contest, but as the game entered the final stages, Koeman’s side carried the greater attacking threat.
And the Dutch manager was delighted with the influence that Gerard Deulofeu, Enner Valencia and Mason Holgate all had on the encounter.
“We showed commitment and qualities,” Koeman said. “The three substitutes had a big impact in the game. It was deserved because we were the most dangerous team in the second half. De Gea made two fantastic saves. We kept the belief and got the penalty.”
United had taken the lead when Zlatan Ibrahimovic capitalised on a goalkeeping error, and they could have been further in front if they had been more clinical.
However, once Everton got back on level terms, they looked like the more likely victors – with Enner Valencia, in particular, causing the Red Devils’ defence a number of problems.
Koeman’s substitutes were focused on, as he decided to leave Ross Barkley on the bench, but the Dutch boss could feel vindicated at full-time.
Everton are now in eighth place in the Premier League table, after winning just one of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
The Toffees are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road.
