The Dutchman has led Everton to their best start to a season since 1978.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman

It is fair to say that Ronald Koeman has enjoyed a flying start to his life as Everton manager.

The Dutchman was brought to Goodison Park in the summer following the sacking of Roberto Martinez before the end of last season.

He has proved to be an instant hit with four wins from his first five Premier League games in charge, the latest being Saturday’s 3-1 win over Middlesbrough.

That result left them second in the table with 13 points from their first five games; the Toffees’ best start to a campaign since 1978.

The start he has enjoyed on Merseyside is only helping to improve the reputation of Koeman, who had impressed during his two-year spell in charge of Southampton.

And that is reflected in one set of betting odds, with Oddschecker reporting he is currently the bookies’ favourite to be the next manager of Barcelona.

According to them, he is currently 3/1 to be the next Blaugrana boss should Luis Enrique decide to depart when his contract expires next summer.

Koeman was of course a big hit at the Nou Camp during his playing days, winning four La Liga titles and one European Cup among other trophies during his six-year spell at the club.

After his start with Everton it is easy to see why he would be a target but the Toffees are sure to fight hard to keep him should any approach come.

For now they can simply revel in the excellent business they did to bring him to the club this summer in what is looking likely to be a very exciting season.
