The Everton boss has hinted he will follow Tottenham and Celtic’s examples.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has hinted to Sky Sports that he may copy Tottenham Hotspur’s approach to beat Manchester City.

The Blues travel to the Etihad on Saturday afternoon to take on Pep Guardiola’s table-topping team.

They take on a City side that are keen to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur before the international break, their first loss of the season.

That game saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side employ a high pressing style to great effect, something that Celtic had also done successfully in the Champions League to secure a draw in the Champions League.

And Koeman’s comments have hinted he may employ a similar tactic to ensure success for his own side.

“They’re very good, maybe not last week against Spurs, but impressive in the way they play,” he told Sky Sports.

“I saw them against Borussia Monchengladbach, it’s a good job to see the difference to how they played last year. We have seen some good examples of how to get results against City.”

While looking for a win this weekend, Koeman says he and rival manager Guardiola are strong friends.

The two played together for five years at Barcelona, playing key roles in the famous team that won the European Cup in 1992.

They struck up a firm friendship in that time and Koeman says he wishes Guardiola all the best, just not on Saturday.

“We are really strong friends and now it is easy because he is living in Manchester,” he added.

“Sometimes we have dinner, talk about football and talk about life. Most of the other managers win titles but not with that football. I wish them the best but not on Saturday.”
