Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to stay at Goodison Park next season.
Ronald Koeman has confirmed to Everton’s official website that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be part of his first-team squad next season.
Calvert-Lewin played 12 matches for Everton’s senior side last term, making five starts in the Premier League.
And Koeman feels that the former Sheffield United man is progressing very well at Goodison Park.
“He deserved to start matches last season and he is progressing well, but he needs to progress more because he is still only 20 years old,” Koeman said.
“He’s physically strong, which makes him a little bit different than the likes of [Tom] Davies and some of our other young players.
“He can play in different positions up front. He’s really improving in his movement and finishing, and that makes him a first-team player.
“But he’s a good boy who is serious and has a phenomenal attitude, which is what we like.”
Calvert-Lewin scored one goal for Everton in the Premier League, against Hull City.
And the 20-year-old has also had a very productive summer, with his reputation increasing.
Calvert-Lewin scored the winner for England’s under-20 side in the World Cup final.
There were suggestions that Calvert-Lewin could be loaned out by Everton to get him regular football, but Koeman’s comments appear to suggest that the prospect will be kept around at Goodison Park.
Calvert-Lewin is likely to face new competition for a striking place in the Toffees’ first-team, with Sandro Ramirez expected to arrive on Merseyside in the near future.
Everton’s season begins on 12th August, when they take on Stoke City in Premier League action.
