The Dutch boss is sure that the 20-year-old will return from West Brom a better player.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has explained, via the club’s official Twitter account, that he took the decision to allow Brendan Galloway to leave for West Bromwich Albion on loan to give him the opportunity to play regularly and improve for his future at Goodison Park.
Galloway has left the Toffees to link up with Albion for the season after a deal was struck between the two club over the weekend.
The 20-year-old played 19 times in all competitions last season as cover for the injured Leighton Baines and Bryan Oviedo, but was not included in Koeman’s first-team plans for the start of the current campaign.
He has now joined the Baggies, and Koeman confirmed that his thinking behind the decision was to give Galloway the opportunity to improve so that Everton can reap the rewards in the future.
The Dutch boss said, via the club’s Twitter account: “What we like for young players is to give them the best way to improve. He is a player who’s future is at Everton but at the moment he is not playing for the first team.
“There was a possibility in West Brom, I know the manager is very good. He asked me about Brendan and finally we took the decision to put him on loan because that’s really the development of a young player. [It will allow us] to get him back in a better way so that he can be more competition for the rest of the defenders.
“It’s always the best at the highest level, to compete, to learn, and to improve young players. West Brom in that situation is a very good opportunity for Brendan.”
Galloway will hope that he fares better than some recent loanees at the Hawthorns.
The likes of Serge Gnabry and Alex Pritchard – clearly very talented players – found their options severely limited during ill-fated loan spells at West Brom.
Galloway is far more likely to get regular game time, however, as Pulis has had to resort to playing centre-back Jonny Evans at left-back in the injury absence of Chris Brunt.
