Arsenal brought in a goalkeeper over the summer as Runar Runarsson arrived from Dijon, but he hasn’t really impressed.
The Iceland international endured a nightmare against Manchester City last month, meaning Arsenal are already considering bringing in another goalkeeper.
Runarsson clearly isn’t a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, and Dharmesh Sheth reported on Sky Sports (13/01/21, 5:05pm) that Arsenal now want to sign Barcelona’s Neto.
It was stated that Barca would be seeking around £18million for Neto, and it’s unclear whether the Gunners can really pay that this month.
Neto, 31, is currently backup to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen at Barcelona, and also previously been backup at Juventus before starring at Valencia.
Barcelona paid a huge £31million to sign Neto in 2019, but he has played just 14 games since his arrival, meaning he now wants to leave.
Barca boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed to Goal that Neto’s representatives have asked for a transfer, but Barcelona simply can’t let him go because they need to keep him.
“It’s true that his representative has asked the club for an exit and we have said no because he is an important goalkeeper for us and we want to be very well covered at each position,” said Koeman.
It will be interesting to see how Barca respond to an Arsenal offer, whilst Neto may well fancy playing with Brazilian international teammates David Luiz and Willian.
