Everton are set to take on Leicester City in the FA Cup this weekend.
Ronald Koeman has confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that Everton forward Ademola Lookman will not be in his side’s squad to take on Leicester City.
Everton have signed Lookman from Charlton Athletic for a fee of £10 million.
The youngster has become the most expensive player ever to be bought from League One, and is Everton’s first signing of the January transfer window.
Koeman insists that Lookman has been bought for the future, though, and he will not come into the first-team straight away.
“He is 19, he will not play next week against City, but he will be involved in training and we will see how he improves on this level,” Koeman said.
“It is good that we bring in the boy at this point of the season. That is the best for him first and second for us.”
Lookman has scored seven goals for Charlton so far this season, and is regarded as one of the brightest, young talents in England.
Everton have a history of buying players from the Football League and developing them into first-team stars.
The Toffees have snapped up John Stones from Barnsley before selling him on to Manchester City for mega-money, and they currently have the likes of Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert Lewin breaking into their senior squad after stepping up from Barnsley and Sheffield United respectively.
