Everton were beaten 5-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman has admitted to the Liverpool Echo that he did not expect there to be such a big gap between Everton and Chelsea yesterday.
The Toffees were thoroughly outplayed at Stamford Bridge, as they slipped to a 5-0 defeat.
And Koeman admits that his Everton team found is challenging to cope against such a free-flowing Chelsea side.
“It was difficult,” the Dutch boss said.
“There are always reasons why you lose the game, first of all Chelsea showed us today a very high level of football, in every aspect of football.
“How aggressive you need to play, quality on the ball, winning second balls – there was a big difference.
“I did not expect that difference on the pitch but it happened.”
Everton were out of the match against Chelsea before half-time, and their defeat was an eye opener.
The Toffees went into the game with the second best defensive record in the Premier League, but they were carved open time and time again by Chelsea.
Antonio Conte’s side scored first half goals through Eden Hazard, Marcus Alonso and Diego Costa and they never let up.
Further goals from Hazard and Pedro in the second period secured a comfortable victory for the Blues, who are going from strength to strength.
Everton, meanwhile, are now in seventh place in the Premier League table – and they are six points behind the Champions League qualification spaces.
