Sunderland are believed to be interested in Everton defender Phil Jagielka.
Ronald Koeman has told the Daily Express that Phil Jagielka is not happy with his current situation at Everton.
Jagielka has been taken out of Everton’s starting line-up in recent weeks, with Koeman favouring other defensive options.
Ashley Williams, Mason Holgate and Ramiro Funes Mori appear to have displaced Jagielka in the Toffees’ starting line-up.
And Koeman admits that he is no longer certain whether Jagielka will be at Goodison Park at the end of the month.
“He is not happy because he is not starting and that’s a good signal,” Koeman said. “What you need to do as a player is fight and make it difficult for the manager.
“I don’t know [if he will leave this month], it’s all about if there is interest for Jag. Of course the last few weeks he did not start but he is important – he is the captain of the team.”
Jagielka has been a stalwart in Everton’s team over a number of seasons, but his form was poor in the opening few weeks of the campaign.
Sunderland are believed to be one of the teams who are interested in signing the England international (Chronicle).
Sunderland believe Jagielka’s arrival would strengthen their back line, as they aim to avoid relegation.
However, the Black Cats do not have much money to spend in the January transfer window, meaning there is still some doubt over whether a deal could be completed.
