Everton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed the worst fears of Everton supporters over Yannick Bolasie’s injury, revealing that the summer signing could be out of action until 2018, as reported by the club’s official Twitter account.
2017 is only four days old, but Toffees fans may not get to see £25 million man Bolasie at all before the year gives way to 2018.
Bolasie had started life at Goodison Park well, scoring one goal and adding four assists in his first 15 appearances for the club.
However, the Congo star has not played since limping out of the clash with Manchester United on 4 December, and it was subsequently revealed that he was set for a long-term absence after damaging his cruciate ligament.
Now, Koeman has confirmed everyone’s worst fears by revealing that Bolasie could be ruled out of action for the next year, meaning he would not return until midway through the 2017-18 season.
Koeman said, via the club’s official Twitter account: “It will be around 11-12 months before he [Bolasie] is back.
“That is a big disappointment but he will come back.”
Everton have done reasonably well in Bolasie’s absence, earning three wins and 10 points from their six games since his injury.
However, the prospect of an entire calendar year without the big-money star will be a hard pill for everyone at the club to swallow.
