Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have been linked with Frank de Boer, since parting ways with Mark Warburton.

Ronald de Boer has suggested that his brother, Frank, wants players who are very comfortable in possession, if he is to take over at Glasgow Rangers.

He said to BBC Sport: “He [Frank De Boer] has to observe the team itself, how strong it is and are the players able to fulfil his thoughts? Frank will play forward so he wants players who can play in small spaces, who can dribble and are willing to go forward. That’s really important.”

In this article, we take a look at two members of the current Rangers squad whose places at Ibrox could come under threat if De Boer takes charge.

Clint Hill

Rangers' Clint Hill

For all of Hill’s strengths, he has never been the most gifted footballer in possession.

The experienced centre-back has featured regularly for Rangers this season, but his strengths lie in his no-nonsense approach.

Hill is strong in the tackle, and a fierce competitor, but if De Boer wants to build from the back at Ibrox – then he may find that he doesn’t fit in.

Joe Garner

Rangers' Joe Garner celebrates

Garner may be a fans’ favourite at Rangers, but his game is all about endeavour.

Garner may not be the most technically gifted striker, but he is a constant threat to defences through his willingness to press.

If Rangers want to build a possession based style under De Boer, there are questions over whether he would suit that game plan, though.

Garner has previously proven at his most effective in disciplined and organised teams, and he could be at risk if De Boer takes charge.
