Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Ajax pair.
Ajax legend Ronald de Boer spoke to reporters about the respective futures of Tottenham-linked duo Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt, and refused to rule out the possibility of both players leaving the Amsterdam Arena, as quoted by Football.London.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Spurs are keen to sign De Jong, 21, whilst the Sun claims that De Ligt has been on the radar of the north London club for quite some time.
Central defence is obviously an area where Mauricio Pochettino wants to strengthen, with Toby Alderweireld facing an uncertain future at Tottenham.
And Spurs have been given hope that the Dutch duo could be available.
De Boer spoke to reporters, and admitted that both De Jong and De Ligt could leave Ajax, although he seemed to suggest that Barcelona could be their eventual destination, as quoted by Football.London:
“Frenkie is incredible. He is a footballer for whom you go to a stadium to watch him play. He is one of those who marks the differences and is still very young. I do not know if it will end at Barça but it would be normal for him to leave. If he arrives at the Camp Nou, he has quality enough to succeed. And De Ligt, he is also great. He is 19 years old and he seems to be 30. Both of them would be holders at Barça without problems.”
There is still obviously a long way to go until the January transfer window opens, but Tottenham would be wise to set the wheels in motion, if they want to beat Barcelona to either of the Ajax youngsters.
