Former Ibrox star Ronald de Boer has spoken highly of Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor to The Sunday Post.

De Boer, who was on the books of Rangers from 2000 until 2004 and remains a fan favourite among the Ibrox faithful, believes that McGregor has been in brilliant form for Steven Gerrard’s side all season.

The former Netherlands international was also impressed with the performance of the 36-year-old Scotland international goalkeeper during Rangers’ 4-3 defeat to Spartak Moscow away from home in Russia in the Europa League last week.

McGregor returned to Rangers in the summer transfer window for his second spell at Ibrox after leaving Hull City in the Championship in England at the end of last season.

De Boer told The Sunday Post: “I think Alex has good players, starting with the goalkeeper, Allan McGregor.

“He has been in brilliant form all season for Rangers and, although he lost four goals, he made some fantastic saves the other night against Spartak Moscow.”

Praise for Glenn Middleton

Meanwhile, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has praised Glenn Middleton following his performance against Motherwell at the weekend.

The 18-year-old winger scored for the Gers in their 7-1 victory over Motherwell at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership this past Sunday, and Gerrard has underlined his work ethic.

Gerrard told Rangers’ official website about Middleton: “To be fair to Glenn, he works hard. When people are going in from the training ground, he wants to stay out.”
