Cristian Romero has told TyC Sports that his Tottenham teammates are beginning to get angry with the defender over his World Cup win – as the Argentine star continues to keep talking about winning the trophy in December.
Romero, 24, was a crucial part of Argentina’s side that went on to win the tournament. That is, despite losing to Saudi Arabia in their opening group game. Romero has since spoken about the injury he was carrying, in Qatar.
He claimed that Spurs doctors told him he should not play in the group stages – but Argentine doctors disagreed. Romero played against Saudi Arabia, was rested in the next against Mexico – as a sub – and then started the rest.
Romero, understandably, has been regularly discussing winning the World Cup trophy at this early stage in his career. But he has told TyC that his Tottenham teammates are ‘angry’ about Romero talking about the World Cup.

“Being a World Champion is the most important thing that happened to me as a footballer, but I have had to relax a little lately. I’ve put it to one side a bit because otherwise my Tottenham teammates get a little angry,” Romero said.

Romero can hardly be criticised for regularly mentioning his World Cup win. There is every chance that Romero could have two, or even three more chances of lifting the World Cup trophy for a second time later on in his career.
Certainly, it will be the last trophy he wins at least until the end of the 2023-24 season. The FA Cup exit earlier this week against Sheffield United ends any chance of Spurs winning silverware this term. The top four is now a priority.
