Everton look set to ink Romelu Lukaku to an extended contract.

A new Everton contract for Romelu Lukaku is “99.999999999” per cent done, according to his agent.

Mino Raiola made the comments in an interview on talkSPORT, but was also quick to point out that signing an extended deal wouldn’t necessarily mean the striker staying at the club until it ended.

“In football, you know, contracts are not there to be going until the end sometimes,” he warned. “But there’s always a two-party deal.

“If then everyone thinks it’s better to move on then that will be done in that moment, but for this moment he’s signing a contract with Everton.”

Lukaku is currently the top scorer in the Premier League, with 17 goals alongside Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez, and including assists he has accounted for half of Everton’s league goals this season.

His strike against Sunderland drew him level with Duncan Ferguson on 60 Premier League goals the Toffees – the club record – but it’s no secret that he wants to play in the Champions League.

With Everton currently seventh, six points off a top four spot but having played a game more than its incumbents Arsenal, it looks unlikely he will have a chance to do that next season and with top quality strikers in short supply you would imagine he won’t be short of suitors.

Raiola’s comments are certainly good news for Everton, but fans shouldn’t get too carried away as, like he says, contracts are often not seen out.
