Everton striker Romelu Lukaku was one of a number of Everton players to take to Twitter after drawing 1-1 with Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
The Toffees played their part in an action-packed encounter at the Etihad Stadium, as Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg saved Kevin De Bruyne’s penalty before striker Lukaku broke to put Ronald Koeman’s men in front.
City had another penalty saved shortly after as Stekelenburg denied Sergio Aguero, but Pep Guardiola’s side did get their equaliser as Nolito made it 1-1 – and that’s how it stayed as the teams claimed a point each.
Everton may have been dominated having had just 27% of possession and three shots on goal, but Koeman will be delighted with the resiliency on show from a side who collapsed defensively on too many occasions last season.
Everton’s Yannick Bolasie in action against Manchester City
After the final whistle, Everton players took to Twitter to send messages to supporters, with Lukaku telling fans that it was a ‘good point’ even though he wanted to win, and praised team-mate Yannick Bolasie for his flick in the build-up to Everton’s goal.
Aaron Lennon celebrated a good point before wishing luck to Liverpool-born, Everton-supporting boxer Tony Bellew before his big fight with BJ Flores on Saturday evening.
Left back Bryan Oviedo, filling in for the injured Leighton Baines, thanked fans for their support at the Etihad Stadium, whilst winger Gerard Deulofeu hailed goalkeeper Stekelenburg for his ‘amazing heroics’.
