Everton are unbeaten after their first four Premier League fixtures.
Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted to the Daily Star that he was not fit enough when Ronald Koeman first arrived at Goodison Park.
Lukaku made a slow start to the season for Everton, after being given an extended break following Euro 2016.
However, the 23-year-old forward was back to his best in Everton’s latest match – as he scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Sunderland.
Lukaku’s power was on full display in the match, and the Belgian international claims that Koeman is the perfect manager to get the best out of him.
“I had a feeling from the first day we met he would improve us as a team and especially me as a player,” Lukaku said.
“I knew it was coming. I had a good performance with Belgium and then I knew I was back in business.
“I could have had five or six but I’m happy with three. It’s my first hat-trick for the club in the Premier League so I’m delighted.
“I knew fitness-wise I was not at my best in the first weeks of the season because I came in later than the others.
“I had to work twice as hard and now it’s paying off so I am really happy.”
There were strong rumours that Lukaku would leave Everton last summer, but the Merseyside club fought hard to keep hold of their prized striker.
Lukaku now seems happy at Goodison Park, and he looks set to spearhead their attack for the campaign ahead.
Everton have made a very encouraging start to the season, and currently sit in third place – after going unbeaten through their first four matches.
The Toffees are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Middlesbrough at Goodison Park.
