The Everton striker’s performances this season could lead to the striker becoming the Toffees biggest ever export.

As reported by the Daily Mirror, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has recently claimed that he wants to “create history” at Everton, amid fears that the Beligan forward will depart Goodison Park in the summer.

Lukaku’s goal-scoring record of 21 goals and 6 assists so far in this campaign has drawn the attention of admirers all over Europe, and the Toffees now face a real struggle to keep hold of him.

But after such a fine season, Romelu Lukaku could well still make Everton history this summer, as long as the club can tie him down to a new deal.

Currently, Everton’s most expensive export has been defender John Stones, who joined Manchester City last summer for a fee reported by the BBC to be in the region of £47.5 million, making him the world’s second most expensive defender. But could that fee be smashed by Lukaku’s potential departure?

The Daily Express reported last month that Chelsea were prepared to pay in the region of £70 million to re-sign the Belgian striker; money that could be invested in multiple areas of the Everton squad.

A fee as substantial as that would be difficult for Everton to say no to, no matter how good Romelu Lukaku is, or how much he contributes to the team.

So when Romelu Lukaku says he wants to make history with Everton, that could well be true. And could feesibly happen! But perhaps not in the way that Everton fans would be happy with.

Then again, could the Toffees really say no to that kind of money? The Blues didn’t want to lose John Stones last summer, but just under £50 million is almost impossible to say no to. Especially when the fee can be reinvested in players like Ashley Williams and Idrissa Gana Gueye.
