Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted to Sky Sports that he nearly left the club this summer.
This summer saw Everton fans fearing the worst regarding their star players. Those fears were realised when John Stones headed to Manchester City. It looked as though Belgian striker Lukaku was all set to follow him out of the exit door.
But in the end he stuck around, with his price-tag and poor performance at the European Championships with Belgium surely not helping his cause.

Now he is finding his form for Everton again – with four goals in his six appearances for Everton this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports the 23-year-old explained why he decided to remain at Everton this summer, admitting he was close to leaving:
“I was really close [to leaving], but I had a moment of reflection – for a week in pre-season – to see how the manager works and see what he sees in me as a player.
“I’m young and there are aspects of my game I need to improve. He worked with me on it from day one and I was convinced he was a man that can have a big influence on my future.”

There is no doubt that the presence of new boss Ronald Koeman would have impacted on his decision to remain at the club long-term.
The Dutchman appears to have struck up a good rapport with the Belgian international – and hopefully he can continue his good form this evening when Everton take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
