Fabrizio Romano believes Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are now ‘close’ to reaching an agreement with Wolfsburg regarding the £34 million-rated centre-half Micky van de Ven.
At this stage, it appears to be a race to the finish line between Micky van de Ven and fellow Bundesliga colossus Edmond Tapsoba.
Both players are at the top of Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist, with the new Tottenham Hotspur manager looking to bring in a left-sided centre-half to replace Clement Lenglet.
And while Tapsoba is still very much in contention – Sacha Tavolieri reporting that his representatives were in London for talks last week – Van de Ven could beat the Bayer Leverkusen use by a nose.

Tottenham, Romano writes on Twitter, are now ‘advancing in talks with Wolfsburg’.
Tottenham close in on Micky van de Ven
“(I am) told the agreement between clubs is now close,” Romano adds. “Negotiations are underway, and talks on Monday were really positive.
“(Tottenham are) waiting for key details. More to follow.”
One of the fastest players in the Bundesliga and a man who will have no problems adapting to Postecoglou’s build-from-the-back approach, Tuttomercatoweb reports that Tottenham have made an opening bid of £26 million.
Wolfsburg are holding out for £34 million. But perhaps a compromise can be reached, both clubs meeting somewhere in the middle.
“We have to talk to VFL first. I think Spurs would be a good move for Micky,” Fortes Rodriguez, Van de Ven’s agent, told WAZ last month.

Van de Ven, a Dutch U21 international reminiscent of Jan Verthonghen due to his raking passes and his expert positioning, was brought to Germany by now-Liverpool director Jorg Schmadtke back in 2021.
Liverpool were linked with a move of their own, but Spurs are now in pole position. Van de Ven could now become Spurs third summer signing after James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and the soon-to-be-arriving Manor Solomon.
Tottenham, meanwhile, could also look to bring in a right-sided centre-half; Davinson Sanchez potentially on his way to Russia.
