Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Liverpool’s move for a midfielder towards the end of the transfer window.
As we all now know, the Reds went out and signed Arthur Melo from Juventus on loan on Deadline Day, but they had another option lined up towards the end of the transfer window.
Indeed, according to Romano, one player that Liverpool looked at was Rafinha Alcantara from PSG.

Romano shared details about Liverpool’s interest in Rafinha.
“Liverpool signed Arthur Melo on a loan deal in the last hours of the window, but Liverpool explored many possibilities. I can tell you that one of the names on the list was Rafinha from PSG, but he joined Al-Arabi the Qatari club, so he decided to go for a different experience. He was one of the players on the list at Liverpool and he was dreaming of the possibility to play with his brother Thiago Alcantara,” Romano said.
Family affair
It would’ve been nice for Rafinha to finally get the chance to play with his brother Thiago after nine years apart.
The midfield pairing both came through together at Barcelona, but after Thiago’s departure in 2013, the brothers haven’t shared a pitch for almost a decade.
These two are undoubtedly two of the most talented brothers in football history, and perhaps that has something to do with the fact that their Dad was World Cup-winning Brazilian star, Mazinho.
Unfortunately, Rafinha’s move to Anfield didn’t come to fruition, but with the amount of money he’s probably earning over in Qatar, we’re sure he’s not losing too much sleep over it.
