Fabrizio Romano believes that AC Milan have moved on from Jakub Kiwior with Premier League leaders Arsenal unwilling to let the Poland international return to Serie A on loan.

Milan, Romano explains, will most certainly bring a new centre-half to the San Siro in the January transfer window. But it won’t be Jakub Kiwior.

The Rossoneri look set to be restricted to short-term loan deals, and that is a major stumbling block to their hopes of bringing the one-time Spezia stopper back to Italy. Arsenal have little interest in letting Kiwior leave on a temporary basis and, in truth, why would they?

The £20 million Poland international may have struggled to force his way into Mikel Arteta’s starting XI this term – largely due to the form of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes – but he remains a potentially crucial part of a squad likely to be stretched to it’s limits as the Gunners fight on multiple fronts.

Serie A giants like Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior

“AC Milan will sign a new centre back, for sure. And Kiwior is one of the names in the list,” Romano tells Sempre Milan.

“The point is that Arsenal are currently not keen on letting him go on loan. Milan can only proceed with loan deal. That’s why they are now considering other targets.”

Kiwior has started only two Premier League games in 2023/24. Milan may be out of the race as things stand, but interest from the likes of Sevilla and Jose Mourinho’s Roma means that the 23-year-old is still likely to face plenty of speculation over his future in the coming weeks.

Out of Mikel Arteta’s XI

“There is talk of Milan, Roma and Fiorentina. The Pole knows the specifics of the game in Italy and could basically jump into the squad straight away. I am convinced that Italy is a better solution (than joining another Premier League team),” Piotr Czachowski, the former Poland ace, tells TVP Sport.

“If he has so few minutes played at this stage of the season, he should necessarily go on loan. The Arsenal defender seems subdued. His head is lowered, the eyes move to the side. This is sad and worrying ahead of the March play-offs (with Poland looking to qualify for Euro 2024).

“To be confident, he simply needs to play more.”
