Fabrizio Romano says Nottingham Forest are in talks with Manchester United over the loan-to-buy signing of goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Romano claims a permanent option would be worth £20million.

Henderson, 25, is keen to leave Manchester United in order to boost his chance of being a part of England’s World Cup squad come the end of the season. He managed just three senior appearances for United last term.

Reports claim that Henderson has informed Newcastle that he would like to move to Tyneside – but nothing has come of it. He has three years remaining on his enormous £120,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford.

Now, Italian journalist Romano says Nottingham Forest are in talks over a loan-to-buy deal for Henderson. It is believed a permanent option of £20million would be included. Henderson himself is also considering it.

It would be a stunning signing for Forest. With Brice Samba looking likely to leave, Henderson would instantly hand Steve Cooper a Premier League and England standard goalkeeper. At £20million, he is cheap.

While Forest should forget about signing him permanently this summer, survival in the top tier this season would make a deal much more achievable next summer. His wages will have to be slashed if he does depart, though.

It would also give Henderson the platform in which he requires to show Gareth Southgate he is one of England’s best three goalkeepers between the sticks. He is behind Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale and Jordan Pickford right now.
