The prospect of Liverpool signing Ismaila Sarr has been written about quite a lot in recent years.

The Senegal international has been linked with a transfer to Anfield on and off since virtually 2019.

And with Mane having left Jurgen Klopp to join Bayern Munich, it’s strange that Sarr isn’t among those linked with replacing his compatriot on Merseyside.

This summer, there hasn’t been a lot of speculation about Sarr going to Liverpool.

But with Klopp – who also lost Takumi Minamino – needing another wide option, reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a ‘surprise’ swoop shouldn’t be definitively ruled out.

He told Caught Offside: “Liverpool have followed him for years but have never made any proposals, Klopp’s focus is on other deals; Sarr can be a surprise from here to the end of the market.

“Liverpool could be the right fit for Sarr’s talents, as he is a similar style of player to his compatriot Sadio Mane, who had a great career at Anfield before moving to Bayern Munich this summer.”

The majority of transfer-related speculation involving the Reds right now appears to be centering around whether Klopp will be signing a midfielder.

There’s no doubt that the Liverpool manager needs one of those, but he is also one injury to Mohamed Salah or Luis Diaz away from being in massive trouble this season and that’s why replacing Mane is so paramount.

Whether it’s with Sarr remains to be seen, but the German boss certainly does need another wide option but time will tell whether he finds one.
