Fabrizio Romano has told Give Me Sport that Leeds could make a late move for Flamengo striker Pedro. The one-time Brazil international is in stunning form, scoring 20 goals in the 2022 Brazilian campaign – and laying on nine assists.

Pedro, 25, has been sensational for Flamengo – who currently sit in second place in the Brazilian Serie A. His form over the years at Flamengo has seen him earn a call-up to the Brazil squad, managing just the solitary cap in 2020.

That might be why he could be keen on a move to Europe. He has tried his luck in Europe before, with Fiorentina. After 20 goals in 58 Fluminense games, his boyhood club, Fiorentina brought him to Italy. But he only played four times.

He returned to Brazil with Flamengo in January 2020 on loan, signing permanently in January 2021. He boasts 68 goal involvements in 138 Flamengo appearances – scoring 52 and creating 16. Romano says Leeds could make a late move.

“I’m told a player they have been monitoring for a long time is Pedro from Flamengo. Problem with South American transfers is timing. Now we’re close to the end, they need to be fast if they want to do a South American deal.”

What a signing Pedro would be, if Leeds could pull it off. But with less than 24 hours left to go in the window, it looks extremely unlikely. Perhaps, the long-standing interest in the Brazilian may continue that way, at least until January.

Leeds do need another attacker. Even if Dan James remains. Cody Gakpo looks likely to be the player Leeds bring in, if the bring anyone in. But Pedro would be a super signing given his form in Brazil, in the red and black of Flamengo.
