Is Allan Saint-Maximin staying at Newcastle United, amid speculation about a move to Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea?

Well, that’s the big question that the Magpies’ supporters have been asking themselves in recent weeks.

There’s still time left in the transfer for Newcastle to buy players but, by the same token, enough time for Eddie Howe to lose some, too.

Saint-Maxmin is among those linked away from St James’s Park and Tottenham and Chelsea are reportedly interested in bringing him to North London.

In July, it was reported by the Northern Echo, as covered by HITC Sport, that Newcastle were anticipating interest from both London outfits in their French winger.

However, Fabrizio Romano has written via Caught Offside that the player is ‘happy’ on Tyneside and the Italian journalist doesn’t envisage a late sale of the former Nice attacker.

He said: “I’m aware there’s been speculation about Newcastle having issues with Allan Saint-Maximin, but that’s not my understanding of the situation. His asking price has always been very high and on top of that the player is happy in Newcastle. I don’t see this being an easy deal.”

Good news?

Absolutely.

Romano is about as reliable as they come on the subject of transfer rumours and if he reveals that the player is content with life at Newcastle then, really, there’s an excellent chance that the information is accurate.

Tottenham have more wide players than you can shake a stick at, so a transfer to Antonio Conte’s outfit was never plausible to begin with, but Chelsea?

Well that’s another matter entirely and with what the Blues are spending this summer, you could easily see them testing Saint-Maximin’s happiness at St James’s Park.
