Fabrizio Romano has told his Here We Go podcast that Tottenham would consider a move to re-sign Christian Eriksen from Brentford, but they will have to wait. That is because Eriksen is waiting until the summer.
Eriksen, 30, clocked up his sixth appearance for Brentford on Saturday as the Dane continues his remarkable comeback from the cardiac arrest that shocked the world at Euro 2020 last summer. He is back to his best.
Indeed, Eriksen has had a hand in three goals during his six Premier League outings – scoring against Chelsea, and assists against Burnley and Watford. On Saturday, his cross saw Pontus Jansson score the winner.
Give Me Sport reported that Tottenham were interested in a deal for Eriksen and Romano has delivered an update. He says Tottenham are keen, but Eriksen is to wait until the summer and hold talks with Brentford.
“We have heard of rumours about Eriksen and Tottenham in the last few days. The answer I’m always receiving from Eriksen’s side, is that he is not deciding now or in May – he wants to wait until the end of the season.
“He will meet and speak to Brentford. That is his priority, a matter of respect. We have rumours of Tottenham, because of his relationship with Conte. It is something Tottenham would consider, after he meets Brentford.”
Romano on Eriksen: Tottenham should do all they can to get him
Conte’s relationship with Eriksen started poorly at Inter, only to make a complete u-turn and the ex-Spurs man shine in Inter’s Serie A winning campaign. Conte found a place for him, and boy did it click.
A Spurs icon, and a Conte reunion on a free – it seems like a match made in heaven. But Eriksen is renowned for being a good person, and he is willing to speak to Brentford – the club that brought him back into football.
