Tottenham Hotspur want Roberto De Zerbi but a release clause in his Brighton and Hove Albion contract can only be activated this summer.

Roberto De Zerbi high on Tottenham wish list

Tottenham have parted ways with Antonio Conte this week and the search for his successor is on.

A host of names have been heavily linked in the last few days and De Zerbi has been linked.

The Telegraph now report that a couple of in-work managers are near the top of Tottenham’s list – including Brighton boss De Zerbi.

It’s suggested that Luis Enrique and Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou are on the wish list for Spurs and Daniel Levy.

De Zerbi has worked wonders since becoming Brighton boss earlier this season, replacing Graham Potter.

Brighton’s outstanding football under the Italian has been recognised by all and Tottenham would no doubt love to bring that style to North London.

De Zerbi release clause explained

Brighton won’t want to lose De Zerbi but there is a release clause in his deal.

Fabrizio Romano reports that there is a fixed amount in De Zerbi’s contract, just like there was for Graham Potter.

Romano claims there is just one problem from Tottenham’s perspective – this fee can only be activated in the summer and not right now.

Tottenham have appointed Cristian Stellini alongside Ryan Mason until the end of the season but if Tottenham had any plans of bringing in De Zerbi in the coming weeks, they will be struggling.

Tottenham were likely planning to wait until the summer anyway, but it’s something for Daniel Levy to think about.

Hailed as a ‘world class’ coach by Adam Lallana in comments given to talkSPORT (15 March, 5pm), De Zerbi is bound to attract interest soon and Tottenham could yet make their move this summer.
