Everton are set to swoop in for Bayer Leverkusen winger Demarai Gray as Rafael Benitez looks to improve his squad.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who this evening reports that Everton are finalising the agreement to sign Gray from Leverkusen.

The talks are advanced, with Everton fending off competition from Crystal Palace to bring Gray back to English football.

Gray only left Leicester City for a move to Germany in January, but is already heading back to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old played 10 times for Leverkusen, registering one goal and two assists in only 437 minutes of action for the Bundesliga club.

Everton do need pace out wide, and Gray can certainly provide that.

His end product wasn’t always great at Leicester, and that’s what has ultimately held him back since bursting onto the scene with Birmingham City.

The fee involved may not be expensive though, as Paul Joyce of The Times reports that Everton are only paying £1.5million to sign the winder.

Rafael Benitez wanted Gray at Newcastle in 2017, so maybe this move shouldn’t be a surprise as the Spaniard finally gets his man.
