Fabrizio Romano has reported on Friday morning that Marseille are set to complete the signing of Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle target Jordan Veretout from Roma for an initial £9million, plus £4million in add-ons.
The 29-year-old Frenchman departs Roma after three years at the club. Initially joining on loan in 2019, the ex-Aston Villa man clocked up 131 appearances for the Italians – signing permanently in the summer of 2020.
He became a bit-part player under Mourinho last season. With the former Tottenham gaffer bringing in Nemanja Matic, he has decided to depart and return to his home country. Marseille have agreed a £13million deal.

It comes after reports earlier this summer suggested Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle were all looking at Veretout. A player that struggled with Villa in English football, but has stood out in Italy and France.
Romano reports that a deal is set to be completed. Using his catchphrase “Here We Go”, Romano says that a medical will be done in the “next few hours”. It sees the Premier League trio miss out.
Marseille to sign Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle target Veretout
While Veretout has struggled in English football, these days he is a much more-rounded midfielder. He can score goals, but also sit in front of the defence and offer a blanket over a back three or four.
Tottenham have brought in Yves Bissouma, while Pape Matar Sarr has returned from loan. Everton are looking to land Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye. Newcastle have numerous options, including Bruno Guimaraes.
But Veretout would have been a good signing for any of the Premier League clubs. Certainly, he would have started for either Everton or Newcastle. But a move to Marseille will see him play in the Champions League. Good move.
