RB Leipzig are convinced that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will want to sign Josko Gvardiol ahead of Graham Potter’s Chelsea in the summer of 2023, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported on Twitter that Chelsea wanted to sign Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners made a bid for 20-year-old defender in the final days of window.

Leipzig turned it down, according to Romano, who has added that the Bundesliga club believe that other teams, including defending Premier League champions Manchester City, will join the race for the Croatia international, who can operate as a centre-back or as a left-back.

The Italian journalist has claimed that Chelsea are still interested in Gvardiol, who recently signed a new deal with Leipzig.

Promising talent

In our view, Josko Gvardiol is a very good and promising young player who would make Chelsea or Manchester City a better team.

Gvardiol is only 20, and he will get better and further his game in the coming months and years.

The Croatian has made two starts and four substitute appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season.

The youngster scored two goals and gave two assists in 28 Bundesliga starts last season.
