Newcastle United have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Monaco defender Axel Disasi this summer.
Axel Disasi has received an approach from Newcastle United amid strong links to Manchester United.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Newcastle have made a move for Disasi.
It’s stated that Newcastle have approached Disasi’s representatives to discuss a move to St James’ Park.
Romano claims that Newcastle are now expected to ramp up their move by making contact with Monaco very soon.
Romano believes that Erik ten Hag has approved a Manchester United move for Disasi this summer and the Red Devils have been speaking to the defender’s representatives.

Who is Axel Disasi?
Disasi hails from Gonesse, in the North East of Paris.
A 6ft 3in centre back, Disasi emerged in the Paris FC ranks and made just four first-team appearances before leaving for Stade de Reims.
That’s where Disasi really kicked on and became an impressive defender, attracting Premier League interest before joining Monaco in 2020.
Disasi has continued to develop in France and is now one of Ligue 1’s top centre backs having racked up the appearances for Monaco.
The 25-year-old has bagged four caps for France, ruling out the chance of playing for DR Congo or Angola.

Where would Axel Disasi fit in for Newcastle United?
Disasi’s best role is as a centre back, preferably on the right side to suit his stronger foot.
Disasi did feature as a right back at times for France during that World Cup but he is certainly better at centre back.
Newcastle used Fabian Schar in that role last season and may see Disasi as a player who can immediate offer very strong competition.
Jamaal Lascelles continue to be linked away from Newcastle and the Magpies may be lining up right-footed centre backs to replace him.
Disasi would certainly fit the bill but fending off Manchester United for his signature will not be easy.
